A Swapcard and Whova alternative, with no app to install
Swapcard and Whova are built around an event app focused on networking. LiveEvent offers networking too, but everything happens in the browser: participants install nothing, and the same tool handles the site, registration and check-in.
In short
LiveEvent is an alternative to Swapcard and Whova if you want networking without an app to download: participant directory, contact suggestions by topic, meetings in person or by video, and messaging, all in the browser. The same tool builds the event website and handles registration and check-in. Swapcard and Whova are a better fit if you want a dedicated mobile app.
LiveEvent is a good fit if…
- You don’t want to ask your participants to download an app.
- You want the site, registration, check-in and networking in the same tool.
- You want messages to stay private: the organiser does not read them unless one is reported.
- You want exhibitors to scan badges at their stand with a simple link.
Swapcard or Whova will suit you better if…
- You want a dedicated mobile app, with notifications on the phone.
- Your event mostly happens online, on a full virtual event platform.
- You need community features that run all year round, beyond the event.
Other tools are described from their public websites, as checked in October 2026. Their offers change: check with them before you decide.
Frequently asked questions
- How do participants find each other?
- Through the directory, with filters, and through suggestions: each person lists the topics they can talk about and the ones they are looking for someone on. An “I’m interested” stays secret until it is mutual.
- Can meetings happen by video?
- Yes. A video room opens in the browser, with camera, microphone, chat and screen sharing on a computer.
- Can the organiser set limits on meetings?
- Yes: you set the period when meetings can be requested and the maximum per person. Afterwards, each person can rate their meeting, and only you see the ratings.
